Karika 48
भेदस्तमसोऽष्टविधो मोहस्य च दशविधो महामोहः। तामिस्रोऽष्टादशधा तथा भवत्यन्धतामिस्रः ॥४८॥
bhēdastamasō'ṣṭavidhō mōhasya ca daśavidhō mahāmōhaḥ। tāmisrō'ṣṭādaśadhā tathā bhavatyandhatāmisraḥ ॥48॥
[भेदः तमसः अष्टविधो मोहस्य च दशविधो महा मोहः। तामिश्रः अष्टादशधा तथा भवति अन्धतामिस्रः॥
bhēdaḥ = divisions are; tamasaḥ = from tamasc quality; aṣṭavidhō = eight types; mōhasya = from the attachment; ca = and; daśavidhō = ten types; mahā mōhaḥ = great attachment; tāmiśraḥ = mixed with tamasa; aṣṭādaśadhā = eight types are; tathā = thus; bhavati = it becomes; andhatāmisraḥ = blind mixed with tamasa;]
(Five misunderstandings are further elaborated here.) Variations of wrong knowledge are eight, and also that of attachment. Ten types are passions. Hatred is of eighteen types, and so also are types of blind attachment to life.

  2. 8 attachments (moha)
  3. 10 passions (mahā mohaḥ) raga
  4. 18 types of hatreds(tāmiśraḥ ), and
  5. 18 types of false clinging to life (andhatāmisraḥ)
In the later commentaries we are provided explanation equating the terms as follows:
tamasaḥ = avidya, wrong knowledge; moha = asmita, ego; mahā mohaḥ = raga, passion; tāmiśraḥ = dvesha, hatred; andhatāmisraḥ = abhivavesha, clinging to life.
