Rig Veda 1.190 (Aghamarṣaṇo Sūkta)
Rig 1.190.01
ऋतं च सत्यं चाभीद्धात्तपसोऽध्यजायत। ततो रात्र्यजायत ततः समुद्रो अर्णवः॥
r̥taṁ ca satyaṁ cābhīddhāttapaso'dhyajāyata। tato rātryajāyata tataḥ samudro arṇavaḥ॥
[ऋतं (ṛtaṁ) - truth or order; च (cha) - and; सत्यं (satyaṁ) - truth; च (cha) - and; अभीद्धात् (abhīddhāt) - from the Supreme Being (Brahman); तपसः (tapasaḥ) - of austerity or penance; अध्यजायत (adhyajāyata) - was born; ततः (tataḥ) - from that; रात्र्यजायत (rātryajāyata) - was born night; ततः (tataḥ) - from that; समुद्रः (samudraḥ) - the ocean; अर्णवः (arṇavaḥ) - the sea;]
Truth (of thought) and truthfulness (of speech) were born of arduous penance, thence was nightgenerated, thence also the watery ocean.
